Send links to Linear

Connect Linear once from your dashboard, and any link in Your files can go to a new or existing Linear issue, showing the file's name, type and size.

Connect Linear

  1. Sign in to NudgeHost, open your dashboard and scroll to Connected apps.
  2. Beside Linear, click Connect Linear.
  3. Linear asks you to approve NudgeHost for one workspace. If you belong to more than one, switch to the right workspace on Linear's page first, then approve.
  4. Linear sends you back to the dashboard, where Linear shows Connected and the workspace's name.

It works on every NudgeHost plan, including Free. If Linear says an admin has to approve new apps in your workspace, ask one of its admins.

Send a link

  1. In Your files, click the Send to Linear button beside the link. It sits between Settings and Delete. On a link's own page it sits beside Settings.
  2. Choose New issue or Existing issue.
  3. Fill in the issue and click Create issue, or pick the issue and click Add to with its ID, such as Add to ENG-142.
  4. NudgeHost shows the issue's ID and a button that opens it in Linear.

The link's own page lists every issue it has been sent to, with a button to open each one.

Make a new issue

FieldWhat goes in it
TeamThe Linear team the issue belongs to. NudgeHost picks the team you used last.
TitleThe file's name to start with. Change it to anything.
NoteOptional. It goes in the issue's description, under the link.

Add it to an existing issue

Type part of the issue's title and pick it from the list. You can also paste the issue's ID, such as ENG-142, or its address copied from Linear.

Sending the same link to the same issue again updates its entry rather than adding a second one.

What the issue shows

On the issueWhat it holds
IconNudgeHost's icon.
TitleThe file's name.
SubtitleIts type and size, such as PDF, 1.2 MB. If the link has an end date, also when it ends, in the reader's own time zone.
DetailsType, size, the link's address, the day you sent it, and when the link ends.
The linkOpens the file for anyone with the address, as it does everywhere else. A password-protected link still asks for its password.

When you replace, delete or end the link

If you replace the file and keep the link, every issue the link is on shows the new size and when you replaced it. The address stays the same.

If you delete a link, each issue's entry changes to say the link was deleted and when.

When a link reaches its end date, each issue's entry changes to say the link ended, within a day. A change to the end date or the password in File settings reaches the issue straight away.

Plans

Send to Linear works the same on every plan. On the Free plan a link ends 14 days after you make it, and the dialog and the issue both show when. The Pro plan keeps links until you delete them.

Sending a link doesn't make a new link, so it doesn't count toward your plan's limit.

What NudgeHost can do in Linear

  • NudgeHost asks Linear for two permissions, Linear's read and issues:create.
  • It reads your teams to fill the Team list, and searches issues while you type under Existing issue.
  • It makes an issue or adds a link only when you click the dialog's Create issue or Add to button. Linear shows you as the person who did it.
  • After that, it changes only the NudgeHost entry, when the link is replaced, deleted or ends. It never edits an issue's title, description or status, and never deletes an issue.
  • Linear's access keys stay on NudgeHost's servers, encrypted. Your browser never holds them.

Disconnect Linear

  1. In Connected apps, click Disconnect beside Linear.
  2. Click Disconnect again to confirm.

NudgeHost deletes its access to the workspace straight away and asks Linear to revoke it. Entries already on issues stay, and their links keep opening while the links last.

Removing NudgeHost in Linear's own settings works too. The dashboard then shows Access ended beside Linear, with a Reconnect button, and sends no email about it.

If you close your NudgeHost account, NudgeHost revokes its Linear access as one of the steps.
