Opening a ZIP
Why open ZIPs here.
A ZIP someone sends you often holds one file you need and a lot you don't. The tool above lists everything in the archive with its size before and after compression, and each file has its own Download button. The two size columns show how well each file packed, and text or source code usually shrinks far more than photos or video, for reasons covered in how compression shrinks different kinds of data.
A file usually has somewhere to go once it is out. A CSV opens as a table in the in-browser CSV viewer, which also reads files without uploading them. If the archive is a built website with an index.html, publishing the ZIP as a live site gives it an address anyone can open.

Frequently asked questions
Does the ZIP get uploaded?
No. The file list is read in your browser, and a file you download is expanded there as well. Nothing about the archive is sent to a server.
Can it open a password-protected ZIP?
No. Locked files still appear with their names and sizes, because the index that holds those is not encrypted, but their Download buttons are switched off. Opening them needs the password, and this page never asks for one.
What happens with a ZIP inside a ZIP?
The inner archive is listed as an ordinary file and downloads like any other. Choose the downloaded archive here to see what it holds.
Is there a limit on how many files the archive can hold?
No. The table shows the first 500 files and says how many more there are, which keeps the page quick on an archive with thousands of entries. The line above the table still counts every file and gives the total unpacked size. Files past the first 500 have no row, so they cannot be downloaded here.
How large a ZIP can it open?
There is no size limit on the archive, because listing reads only the index at the end of the file. The limit is on each extracted file, which can be up to 100 MB unpacked.
Is the ZIP extractor free?
Yes. Listing an archive and saving files from it need no account and cost nothing.
What name does a saved file get?
Its own name, without the folders it sat in, so fonts/brand-bold.woff2 saves as brand-bold.woff2.
Which compression methods can it open?
Files stored without compression and files compressed with deflate. Other methods, such as bzip2 or LZMA, are listed with their sizes, but pressing Download on one shows a message instead of a file.
What if a file in the archive is damaged?
Each file is checked against the checksum the archive recorded for it. If the bytes do not match, the file is not saved and the message says it is damaged. The rest of the list keeps working.
Can it open RAR or 7z files?
No. It reads ZIP archives, including ZIP64. A RAR or 7z file is a different format, and it gets a message instead of a list.
Can I save every file at once?
No. Each file has its own Download button and is unpacked when you press it. To unpack a whole archive, use the archive tool on your computer.
Does the extractor keep the archive?
No. The page reads the archive from your disk while it is open and keeps no copy.
What do the two size columns mean?
Size is the file as it will be once unpacked. Compressed is the space it takes inside the archive. A big gap between the two means the file packed well.
How are folders shown?
Each file keeps its folder in the path shown in the table, such as fonts/brand-bold.woff2, and the summary line counts the folders.
Can it open a ZIP someone sent by email?
Yes. Save the attachment, then choose it here. The archive is read from your disk, so it is never uploaded anywhere.
Is it safe to open an archive I do not trust?
Listing reads only names and sizes, and a file is unpacked only when you press Download, capped at 100 MB so a file that expands far beyond its stated size cannot freeze the tab. Nothing in the archive runs in this page.
Can I read a text file without saving it?
No. The extractor saves files rather than previewing them. Download the file and open it in the app you would normally use.
Can it open an archive split into parts?
No. A split archive, in parts such as .z01 and .zip, needs its parts joined first. The extractor reads a single .zip file.
Does it show when each file was changed?
No. The table shows each file's path and its two sizes, not its date.
