Replace the file
- Open your dashboard and click the settings button in the link's row. File settings opens.
- Under Replace file, click Choose file and pick the new version.
- Click Replace.
- The dialog says "File replaced. Same link, new content." Anyone who opens the link from now on sees the new file.
What stays the same
- The address, and with it any QR code you printed.
- The password, the end date and the open count.
- Someone reading a PDF when you replace it sees "This file has been updated since you opened it" with a Reload button.
- If you send the link to Linear, each issue it's on shows the new size and when you replaced it.
The new file can be a different type. A ZIP with an index.html turns the link into a site at its nudgehost.site address. It's how you swap the file without changing the URL after you've sent the link.
Earlier versions
| Plan | Earlier versions kept |
|---|---|
| Free | None |
| Pro | The last 10 of each link |
| Studio | The last 30 of each link |
- On your dashboard, click the link's open count to reach its own page. The Versions section lists each version with its size, when it was live and its opens.
- Click Download to get an earlier file, or Restore to put it back on the link.
- Confirm with Restore this version. The file that was live is kept as an earlier version in its place.
When the list is full, each replacement drops the oldest. Versions kept on a paid plan stay after a move to the free plan, and you can still restore them, but no new ones are saved. The Pro plan costs $12 a month.
Limits
- The new file has the same size limit as an upload on your plan, 25MB on the free plan.
- Replacing is done in the dashboard. The API and the MCP tools can't replace a file yet.
- A free account holding more than its limit of links can't replace files until it's back under.
If a replacement fails, the troubleshooting guide covers the size limit and the other messages.
