Why this viewer uploads the file.
A .docx is a zipped bundle of XML, and no browser ships a renderer for it. So this viewer uploads the file, converts it once on NudgeHost's server, and stores the result. That upload is also what gives the document a link anyone can open. Every other viewer reads the file locally, and the list of NudgeHost file viewers shows which tool opens what.
The converted page is built for reading, and elaborate layouts simplify. When every page has to look exactly as designed, export to PDF and send the PDF export as a link instead. If nothing should leave your machine at all, the local PDF viewer reads that export without uploading it.
A link made without an account lasts 7 days. Signing up for the free plan keeps it up until you delete it. Pro and Studio add a password on the link.

Yes, and this is the only NudgeHost viewer where that happens. A .docx is a zipped bundle of XML that no browser knows how to draw, so the file goes to our server and is converted to HTML once. On a free account it stays until you delete it; uploaded without an account, the link lasts 7 days. That upload is also what gives the document a link anyone can open, which is the part the other four viewers cannot do. If you would rather nothing left your machine, export to PDF and use the PDF viewer instead.
Will the formatting look exactly like Word?
The view is built for reading. Headings, lists, tables, and images come through; elaborate page layouts simplify. For pixel-identical results, convert the document to PDF first. The download always serves your original file.
