Why send a spreadsheet as a link.
A workbook holding a few years of data can outgrow the attachment limit on a mail server, and a thread of attachments soon holds several copies with final in the name. A link always points at the current file. Replacing the file behind a link works on every account plan, and the address, the view count and any settings stay as they were.
The link hands over the workbook itself, so formulas keep calculating and every tab arrives. For a board pack people only need to read, a PDF of the summary sheet opens in the browser with nothing to install. One sheet saved as a CSV opens on its link as a table showing the first 500 rows. You can check that export first in a CSV viewer that reads the file in your browser, without uploading anything.
Budgets, payroll exports and pricing models are the files people least want forwarded. On either paid plan, Pro or Studio, a password keeps the workbook closed to anyone without it. Any account can also set a date after which the link stops working, which suits figures that go stale once a deal closes.

Will formulas work when the recipient opens the file?
Yes. They download your original workbook, so formulas recalculate normally in their own spreadsheet software.
Does the recipient need Excel?
They need something that opens .xlsx: Excel, Google Sheets, Numbers, or LibreOffice all do. For a read-only summary nobody has to open in a spreadsheet, export to PDF and host that instead.
How big a spreadsheet can I upload?
25MB on the free plan and without an account, 250MB on Pro and 1GB on Studio.
Do all sheets in the workbook survive?
