Key points

  • Upload an Excel spreadsheet, get a public link, share it. No Excel install needed on the recipient's machine.
  • Multiple sheets in one workbook all render correctly, with the tab bar preserved at the bottom.
  • Formulas display as their last-computed values, since the viewer is a viewer rather than a calculation engine.
  • Free with no signup; 25MB per file covers spreadsheets up to roughly 200k rows.

Excel files are heavier than they look. A spreadsheet that opens in a second on your machine can take six seconds to render in Numbers on a Mac and fifteen seconds in Google Sheets if the formulas are complicated. Hosting the .xlsx as a link gets around all of that: the recipient sees the values, not the file. They never wait for a calculation engine to load. If they want their own copy to edit, the link offers a download too.

If the spreadsheet is essentially tabular data without formulas, exporting it to CSV first and opening it in view a CSV online renders even faster and uses less bandwidth. The trade-off is that CSV strips formatting, formulas, and multiple sheets. Pick XLSX hosting when the spreadsheet's structure matters; pick CSV when only the data matters.

Hosting matters in a few specific cases. When you're sending a model to a client and don't want them to accidentally edit it. When you're sharing data with a journalist who's on a phone. When you need a permanent URL that doesn't disappear from a Slack DM after the workspace retention window. Each of these is a NudgeHost-shaped problem, and the same host a file flow that handles XLSX will handle the PDFs and DOCXes that travel alongside it.

Free on our pricing for ten active links. Excel files that exceed 25MB usually have embedded images or pivot tables built on millions of rows; for those cases the Pro plan's higher ceiling is the path. If you want the spreadsheet to expire after a deal closes, link expiry is a one-click setting in the dashboard.
