What each file type shows
| File | What opens |
|---|---|
| NudgeHost's PDF viewer, with page arrows, zoom and search | |
| Word (.docx) | A web page made from the document, with the original kept for download. An older .doc file gets the download page |
| HTML | The page itself, running live |
| JPG, PNG, GIF, WebP or SVG | The image |
| MP4, WebM or MOV | A video player |
| MP3, WAV, M4A or OGG | An audio player |
| CSV | A table of the first 500 rows |
| JSON | A tree you can open level by level |
| Markdown (.md) | Formatted text, with a Source tab and Copy source |
| Text pasted on the Paste text tab | The text, with Copy text and a raw text address |
| ZIP with an index.html inside | A website at your-name.nudgehost.site |
| Anything else, including an uploaded .txt | A page with the file's name, size and a download button |
Video and audio play as they are, with nothing converted. A format the visitor's browser can't play shows a download link instead.
Size limits on viewing
- A CSV or JSON file over 10MB gets the download page.
- A CSV shows its first 500 rows, with a note to download the file for the rest.
- Markdown over 2MB, or that takes too long to format, shows as source.
- Images in a Markdown file aren't loaded. A line shows where each one would be.
- A Word file or a ZIP over 100MB isn't converted or unpacked, so it gets the download page.
On every link
Every file page has a Download button for the original file and a Report link. The page tells search engines not to list it. Opening a link needs no account.
A file over 25MB needs a paid plan. If a file downloads when you expected it to open, the troubleshooting guide explains why.
Check a file before you send it
The file viewers open a PDF, Word, CSV, JSON, HTML or Markdown file in your browser without uploading it, so you can see what your recipient will see. When it looks right, upload a file and copy its link.
