Share a file

  1. Go to nudgehost.com and click Choose a file, or drag the file onto the box that says "Drop your file here".
  2. If you aren't signed in, the box says "Make a free account to get your link". Click Sign up and get the link and make the account. It needs no card, and the file waits in your browser until the account exists.
  3. The file uploads as soon as you're signed in. Your dashboard shows "Your file is live" with the link.
  4. Click Copy link and paste the link into your email, chat or document. QR code beside it shows a code for the same link.

Once you have an account, drop files on your dashboard. Each one ends with "Your link is ready" and a Copy link button. An AI agent can also upload files and hand back a link, with an API key from the same account.

What people see when they open the link

Nobody needs an account to open a NudgeHost link. What opens depends on the file.

FileWhat opens
PDFNudgeHost's PDF viewer, in the browser
HTMLThe page itself, running live
ZIP with an index.html insideA website at your-name.nudgehost.site
JPG, PNG, GIF, WebP or SVGThe image
MP3, WAV, MP4 or WebMA player that plays it in the browser
Markdown (.md)Formatted text, with a Source view
Any other fileA page where they can download it

Host an HTML file and get a link

Upload the .html file the same way as any other file. The link opens the page running live in the browser, not its code.

If you have the HTML as text, open the Paste HTML tab, paste the code and click Publish.

For a site with its own CSS, scripts and images, zip the files and upload the archive with an index.html in it. The site opens at your-name.nudgehost.site and can hold up to 200 files. A ZIP over 100MB is never unpacked, so it stays a download.

Put a password on a PDF or any other link

Password protection is part of the Pro and Studio plans and works on every file type.

  1. Upload the PDF and open your dashboard.
  2. Under Your files, click the settings button in the PDF's row. File settings opens.
  3. Turn on Password protection and type the password in the box that says "Set a password".
  4. Click Save, then share the link as usual.

Visitors type the password before the file opens. A correct password keeps them in for 12 hours on a file and 24 hours on a site. Too many wrong tries from one network make the prompt ask them to wait 15 minutes.

You can lock the link with a password after you've shared it too, and the next person to open it is asked for the password. On a ZIP site the password works on the nudgehost.site address only, so the site stops serving on a custom domain.

On the free plan the switch shows a Pro label and an Upgrade to Pro button. The Pro plan costs $12 a month.

Replace the file and keep the link

If you need to swap the file without changing the URL, open File settings, click Choose file under Replace file and pick the new version. The link stays the same, so everyone who has it sees the new file.

Pro keeps the last 10 earlier versions of each link and Studio the last 30, so you can restore one. The free plan keeps none.

Limits on each plan

PlanWhat it includes
Free3 active links and files up to 25MB. Each link stops working 14 days after you upload it.
Pro, $12 a monthUnlimited active links, files up to 250MB, links that stay until you delete them, password protection and 1 custom domain
Studio, $29 a monthEverything in Pro, with files up to 1GB and 5 custom domains

Text pasted on the Paste text tab can be up to 2MB. You can also set an end date for any link under Expiry date in File settings.

If an upload stops with a message, the guide to upload errors explains each one and how to fix it.
