Name the link
- Click Choose the link name under the upload box.
- Type the name. The line under the box shows it as it will be saved, "Your link name will be" and the name.
- Upload the file. The link comes back with that name.
Files open at nudgehost.com/your-name, and ZIP sites at your-name.nudgehost.site, since a site gets its own nudgehost.site subdomain. Leave the box empty and the link gets a random name of 8 characters, which never uses 0, 1, i, l or o.
The rules for a name
- Lowercase letters, numbers and hyphens. Capitals are lowered, and spaces, accents and other symbols are dropped.
- Up to 60 characters.
- A name is fixed once the link exists, and a deleted link's name is never given to anyone else.
| Message | What it means |
|---|---|
| "Use at least one letter or number." | Nothing usable is left after the rules above |
| "That name belongs to one of our own pages. Try another." | NudgeHost uses that address for a page of its own |
| "That name is reserved. Try another." | The name is kept back, for example because it could pass for an official address |
| "That name is already in use. Try another." | Another link has it |
If the name is taken as you upload
If someone takes the name in the moment before your upload finishes, the link gets a random name and the result says "That name was taken, so your link is" with the new address.
Claim an unused address
- Open the address you want, such as nudgehost.com/your-name, in your browser.
- If it's free, the page says "Nothing lives at this link. Yet."
- Drop a file on the page or click Claim this URL. That exact link goes live.
Claiming works on the free plan too, and you sign in or make an account first if you aren't signed in. The steps to upload a file and copy its link are the same from there.
