Type a name in the upload card and the line under the field shows it exactly as it will be saved. Leave it empty and the link gets a short random name.

Name the link in three steps.

The line under the field shows the name as it will be saved, using the same rules the server applies.

Naming rules
What a name can be.
The upload card applies the same rules the server does, so what the field shows is what you get.
- Letters, numbers and hyphens
Up to 60 characters. Capitals are lowered, and spaces, accents and other symbols are dropped.
Allowed - Left empty
An 8-character name that never uses 0, O, l or 1.
Random - A zipped site
The name becomes its subdomain, like harbour-bakery.nudgehost.site.
Subdomain - A name another link holds
Refused before the upload starts, so you can pick another.
Refused - NudgeHost’s own pages, like pricing
Refused, since those addresses already belong to the site.

Why a short link travels better.
A single file comes back as a short link, nudgehost.com followed by a slash and a name. Left to NudgeHost, the name is eight characters long and skips 0, O, l and 1, the characters people mix up when they read a link aloud or type it from paper. The exception is a ZIP with a site inside, which serves at its own nudgehost.site subdomain.
Choosing the name helps when the address is part of the first impression, which is the case when you share a CV as a link. The name is fixed once the link exists, since changing it would break every copy already sent.

Frequently asked questions
Can I customize the link slug?
Yes, on every plan and without an account. Name the link in the upload card before you drop the file, and it reads the way you want rather than using the auto-generated one. Leave the name empty and NudgeHost assigns a short readable slug for you.
What if the name I want is taken?
The upload card checks the name as you type and refuses one that’s already in use, so you can pick another before uploading. If someone takes it in the moment between that check and your upload, the link gets a random name and the card tells you.
Does a link work in any browser?
Yes. The link opens a web page, so any current browser shows it, and the person opening it doesn’t need an account or an app.
Does the QR code change if I replace the file?
No. The QR code holds the URL, which stays the same through a replacement, so printed codes keep opening the current file.
Does the link show a preview when pasted?
Yes. Apps that show link previews draw a card with the filename as its title and a picture built from the file, such as a PDF’s first page.
Can I create links from code?
Yes. The NudgeHost API and its MCP tools upload files and return the link, and both accept a chosen name. The API needs a key from your dashboard.
Can I see how many times a link was opened?
Yes, on an account. Every plan shows the open count, and paid plans add the time and country of each open.
What happens when I delete a link?
The address stops working, and anyone who opens it sees a page saying the file wasn’t found.
Can two files share one link?
No. Each link points at one file. To send several files as one link, zip them together, and a ZIP without an index.html shares as a single download.
