What they see

Your video plays right on the page.

Paste the link into an email or a chat. One tap opens a page where the video plays in the browser's own player, with a download button above it. A file the browser can't play shows a download card instead.

  • The browser's own video player
  • A download button for the original file
  • No account or app to watch it

How it works

Send a large video in three steps.

  1. Check the size

The file's size decides the plan. If your editor asks, export as MP4 with H.264 video, which every major browser plays.

  2. Upload it

Drop it on the uploader. A file up to 25MB goes up on the free plan or without an account, and a larger one on Pro or Studio.

  3. Send the link

Paste it into an email or a chat. The video plays in the browser, and nobody needs an account or an app to watch it.

After you send it

The link keeps working for you.

Replacing a video and open counts work on the free plan. Passwords and the detail behind each open come with Pro and Studio.

Every account plan

Re-cut it, keep the link

Upload the new cut over the old one. The address, the view count and any password or end date stay the same.

Counts freeDetails on Pro

See whether it was opened

Free accounts see how many times the link was opened. Pro and Studio add the time and country of each open. Pressing play isn't recorded.

End dates freePasswords on Pro

Add a password or an end date

Give the link a date and it stops working after it. On Pro and Studio, a password keeps the video away from anyone who doesn't have it.

Large videos

Why send a large video as a link.

A video too big to attach still travels as a link. A NudgeHost link plays the file in the browser as soon as the upload finishes, with nothing converted on the way, and the Download button hands over the original file. The steps are the ones you'd use to share a video file as a link, on a plan that fits the file's size.

The free plan takes a file up to 25MB, which suits a short clip. Pro takes up to 250MB and Studio up to 1GB, which fits a long screen recording. Without an account you can upload a short clip now, and that link lasts 7 days.

MDN's guide to video formats lists MP4 with H.264 video and WebM with VP8 or VP9 video as playable in Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari, and those files open in the player on the link page. It lists QuickTime, the .mov format, only for older versions of Safari, so a .mov may not play, and the page then offers it as a download. Exporting as MP4 with H.264 video avoids that. A WebM file plays the same way, and you can put a WebM video online with the same steps.

A video sent to a client often shouldn't travel further, so Pro and Studio let you add a password to your shared link. If you re-cut the video after sending it, you can replace the file in your dashboard and the link you sent plays the new version.

Frequently asked questions

  • How big a video can I send?

Up to 25MB on the free plan and without an account, 250MB on Pro and 1GB on Studio. The free plan suits a short clip, and a long recording needs a paid plan.

  • Which videos play in the browser?

MDN lists MP4 with H.264 video and WebM with VP8 or VP9 video as playable in Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari. A .mov may not play, and the page then shows a download card instead of the player.

  • Does the person I send it to need an account?

No. The link opens in a browser on a phone or a computer, and nobody signs in or installs an app.

  • Is the video converted or compressed?

No. The link plays the file exactly as you uploaded it.

  • Can they keep a copy?

Yes. The Download button at the top of the page saves the original file.

  • How long does the link last?

On a free account, until you delete it. A link made without an account stops after 7 days.

  • Can I see whether they watched it?

You can see whether the link was opened. Every account counts opens, and Pro and Studio add the time and country of each one. Pressing play isn't recorded.
