See which pages of your PDF were read.
Send the PDF as a NudgeHost link and its viewer records which pages each open showed and for how long. It records nothing that says who is reading, and it tells them so.

Which pages were read, and for how long
Every account sees the average pages read. Pro and Studio add the average reading time and the pages for each open.

- Average pages read, on every plan

How it works
See the pages in three steps.
Send the PDF link
Upload the PDF and send the link by email or chat, the way you’d send any link.
They read it
NudgeHost’s PDF viewer draws the pages and notes the seconds each one spends on screen.
Check the pages
The link’s page shows the average pages read. On Pro and Studio, each open lists its pages and time.
What a read records
Pages and seconds, never a person.
A read is added to the open’s own record, and holds these fields only.
- Pages on screen
Which pages were on screen, and the whole seconds on each.
Recorded - Page count
How many pages the PDF has.
Recorded - Time and country of the open
The open’s own time and country. The country shows on Pro and Studio.
Recorded - Name or email
The reader signs in to nothing and fills in no form.
Never recorded - IP address
Never written to the record.
Never recorded - Browser or device details
No browser name, operating system or screen size.
Never recorded - Cookies or local storage
Nothing from either goes into the record.
Never recorded - Page the reader came from
The record doesn’t say whether they came from an email or a chat.

Gaps
When a read leaves no pages.
The open can still count in each of these cases. Only the page data is missing.
- Read after a download
The reader presses Download and reads the file in another app.
No pages - The viewer can’t load
JavaScript is off or the viewer fails, so the browser’s own PDF display takes over. The open still counts.
No pages - Your own visits
You open your own link while signed in.
Not counted - Previews and prefetches
A chat app fetches the link to draw its preview card, or a browser prefetches it.
Not counted - Opens before page data began
An open from before page data began on that link.

What you see
The average for everyone, every open on Pro.
Every account sees the average pages read for each PDF. Pro and Studio add the time, and the seconds on every page in the CSV.
Average pages read
On the link’s page and under its open count in your list of links.
Pages and time for each open
Each open lists the pages read, the time spent and the country, beside the average reading time.
Every page’s seconds in the CSV
Both CSV exports add the pages read, the page count and the seconds on each page.
Plans
PDF tracking on each plan.
Every account sees the average pages read. Pro, at $12 a month, and Studio add the time and the detail for each open.

PDF tracking
Why it shows pages and never people.
Tracking starts with the first open, so make a shareable link for a PDF and send it as you would any other link. The reader needs no account and sees no email form. NudgeHost’s own PDF viewer draws the pages, on a phone or a computer, and the bar above them tells every reader the same thing: "The sender sees which pages were read, never who."
Each second the tab is in view, every page filling at least half the screen gains a second, and a page shorter than the screen needs half of itself showing. A page counts as read once it has a whole second. Pages scrolled past faster than that don’t count, and neither does time with the tab in the background. The viewer reports every 15 seconds and once more when the reader leaves, so a closed tab keeps what it showed.
Every account sees the average pages read for each PDF, on the link’s own dashboard page and under its open count in the list of links. The Pro plan and Studio add the average reading time and, for each open, the pages read, the time spent and the country. The CSV export adds every page’s seconds for each open.
Page data is stored on the open’s own record, which is also how you view opens on a shared link. That record keeps the time and country it already had, plus page numbers and seconds. No IP address, browser details, cookie or email goes with it, and the record is deleted after 12 months.
Page data helps most with a deck sent before a meeting. If most opens stop at page 3, you know where to start the call. The steps to share a deck with a client cover sending it as a PDF, and Pro and Studio let you add a password to your shared link when the figures inside are private.
Frequently asked questions
Can I see who read my PDF?
No. A read holds page numbers and seconds, with the time and country of the open. NudgeHost stores no name, email, IP address or browser details, and the viewer tells every reader so.
Does the reader know pages are recorded?
Yes. Every PDF link shows “The sender sees which pages were read, never who.” in the viewer’s bar, and the password page shows it too.
Is it free?
Every account sees the average pages read on each PDF. Pro, at $12 a month, and Studio add the average reading time, the pages and time for each open, and every page’s seconds in the CSV export.
What happens if I replace the PDF?
The opens and their pages stay with the link. The dashboard’s page count follows the latest read, so it shows the new document once someone has opened it.
Does it work on phones?
Yes. NudgeHost’s viewer draws the pages itself, so a phone browser reports pages the same way a computer does.
Can I get page data through the API?
No. The open counts are in the API, and the pages and seconds are in the CSV export on your dashboard.
Does a download count as a read?
The open counts when the link page loads. Pages read in another app after a download aren’t recorded.
Ready to share your file?
Free forever, no credit card needed. The whole thing takes a few seconds.
