Why a link beats sending the audio file.
An audio attachment usually lands in a downloads folder, and the person at the other end has to find a player to open it. A link plays the clip in the browser as soon as they tap it, on a phone or a laptop. A clip that belongs to a video can go up beside it as an MP4 video link.
MP3 is a lossy format, trading a little detail for a much smaller file. How lossy compression decides what to drop explains the trade in more depth. At 128kbps a minute of audio takes about 0.92MB, so the free plan's file ceiling of 25MB holds about 27 minutes.
A podcast episode or a long interview can outgrow that, and Pro takes files up to 250MB. A set of tracks can go up as a single ZIP of the whole album, which downloads in one piece. A FLAC master shares as a download card with the original file intact.

No. Every current browser plays MP3 on the page, on a phone or a computer, with nothing to install.
Can I host other audio formats?
Yes. WAV, OGG, and M4A also play on the link page; a format the browser can't decode falls back to a download. FLAC and the rest host fine as downloads.
Does the audio play on the link page?

How long an audio clip can I host on the free plan?
About 27 minutes at 128kbps, or 18 minutes at 192kbps. Spoken word re-encoded at 96kbps fits about 36 minutes.
Does NudgeHost convert or compress the audio?
No. The file plays exactly as you uploaded it, at the bitrate you exported.
Does a long file download before it plays?
No. The player loads the clip's length and details first, and the audio streams from there once someone presses play.
