The best GitHub Pages alternatives in 2026, with or without a repository
NudgeHost is the best GitHub Pages alternative when you want the site online without a repository. Zip the built folder or take the single HTML file, upload it, and it serves at its own address. If you want to keep publishing from Git, Cloudflare Pages and Netlify build from a repository on every push, and each card below says which host fits which job.
Why people look for a GitHub Pages alternative
GitHub's own docs set out the limits. On GitHub Free, Pages works from a public repository only, and a private one needs GitHub Pro, Team or Enterprise. A published site can be no larger than 1 GB, with a soft bandwidth limit of 100 GB a month and a soft limit of 10 builds an hour, and a deployment times out after 10 minutes. Each account can have one user or organization site, and GitHub says Pages isn't for running an online business, an e-commerce site or SaaS.
The other reason is process, since publishing even one page means a repository, a branch and often a build.
Keep your repository, or leave it behind
Keep Git. Cloudflare Pages, Netlify, Vercel and Render all build from a Git repository, so moving means linking the same repository and pointing your domain at the new host. Pick one when you want a different build setup, or functions beside the static files, which Netlify, Vercel and Cloudflare Pages run.
Leave Git. Take the built folder, the one GitHub Pages would have served, and upload it. On NudgeHost you zip the files and upload the archive, and the site serves at its own nudgehost.site subdomain with no account needed to start. The two are set side by side in NudgeHost vs GitHub Pages.
Seven GitHub Pages alternatives, ranked for moving a site
Ranked for moving a site off GitHub Pages. Each card names the job that host does best, what its free plan holds, and what to watch for.
1. NudgeHost
That's usBest for a site online without a repository, from a ZIP or one HTML file
Upload a ZIP with an index.html and it serves as a website. Upload a single HTML file and it opens as a page. Signed out, a site stays live for 7 days and you can keep 3 at once. The free plan keeps 10 links live with no end date, no banner and no cap on visitors, at 25MB a file and up to 200 files in a ZIP. React and Vue builds keep their routes working, and replacing the ZIP keeps the address.
Publish without Git
Yes, in the browser, signed in or out
Free plan
10 live links, 25MB a file, no visitor cap
Custom domain
A subdomain, from Pro at $12 a month
Pick another host when
The site needs a build on each push or code that runs on the server

2. Cloudflare Pages
Best for the same repository with no bandwidth cap
Cloudflare Pages takes a site from a Git repository, from its Wrangler command line, or as a ZIP or folder dragged into the dashboard. Cloudflare says all plans come with unlimited sites, requests and bandwidth. The free plan allows 500 builds a month, 20,000 files a site and 25 MiB a file. A project started by direct upload can't switch to Git later.
How you publish
Git, the Wrangler CLI, or a ZIP or folder uploaded in the dashboard
Free plan
Unlimited bandwidth, 500 builds a month, 20,000 files a site
Custom domains
Up to 100 a project on the free plan
Watch for
A direct-upload project can't move to Git; start a new project instead

3. Netlify
Best for builds, forms and functions from the same repository
Netlify builds from Git, the command line or its API, and Netlify Drop takes a dragged folder or ZIP with no account. Until you claim a project dropped that way, it sits behind a temporary password. The free plan runs on 300 credits a month. A production deploy costs 15 and each GB of bandwidth costs 20. When the account uses up its credits, every project on it pauses until the next billing cycle starts. Custom domains with SSL come on the free plan.
How you publish
Git, the CLI, the API, or Netlify Drop
Free plan
300 credits a month, 15 a production deploy and 20 per GB served
What it costs
Personal is $9 a month for 1,000 credits
Watch for
When the account's credits run out, every project on it pauses

4. Vercel
Best for a Next.js project for personal use
Vercel deploys from Git or its command line and is built around Next.js. The free Hobby plan is for non-commercial, personal use only. It includes the first 100 GB of Fast Data Transfer and 100 deployments a day, and a command-line upload can carry up to 100 MB of source files. Go over a Hobby limit and you usually wait 30 days before using that feature again.
How you publish
Git or the CLI
Free plan
Hobby, personal use, 100 GB of transfer, 100 deployments a day
Custom domains
Up to 50 a project on Hobby
Watch for
Hobby doesn't allow commercial use

5. Render
Best for a static site beside a backend you also run on Render
Render builds a static site from a linked Git repository on every push and serves it at an onrender.com address. Static sites deploy free on the Hobby workspace, which includes 5 GB of bandwidth a month, then $0.15 a GB, and two custom domains, then $0.25 a domain a month.
How you publish
A Git repository
Free plan
Hobby, 5 GB of bandwidth a month
Custom domains
2 included
Watch for
Bandwidth past 5 GB is billed

6. Firebase Hosting
Best for a site that sits beside a Firebase app
Firebase Hosting serves static and single-page apps and deploys with one command, firebase deploy, from the Firebase CLI. GitHub Actions can deploy on every push. The no-cost Spark plan gives 10 GB of storage and 360 MB of data transfer a day, with a custom domain and SSL included.
How you publish
The Firebase CLI, or GitHub Actions
Free plan
10 GB stored, 360 MB a day served
Custom domains
Included
Watch for
The daily transfer quota, which one busy day can use up

7. Surge
Best for publishing a folder from the terminal
Surge publishes HTML, CSS and JavaScript from your terminal. You install it with npm, on Node 18 or later, and run one command in the folder. The free plan includes unlimited publishing, a custom domain and basic SSL. Surge Professional, at $30 a month, adds password protection, custom redirects and forced HTTPS.

GitHub Pages is the host the others are measured against, so it has a row and no card.
Moving a site off GitHub Pages
If you keep Git. Create a project on the new host, connect the same repository, and set the build command and output folder the site already uses. When the new address works, point your custom domain's DNS records at the new host.
If you leave Git. Build the site locally, or take the built files from the branch GitHub Pages publishes, then upload them. On NudgeHost a single page can go up as one HTML file, and a multi-page site as a ZIP. Sites on nudgehost.site addresses ask search engines not to list them, so a public site that should be found in Google needs a custom domain, which starts on Pro.
How this list was put together
Every host is measured on the same questions: how you publish, whether you can publish without Git, what the free plan holds and whether a custom domain comes free. Each competitor figure comes from that vendor's own pages, read on 14 and 15 October 2026, and each card links them. Mark Boreland wrote this page. Frequently asked questions
Short answers on single pages, business use, domains and server code. The cards above carry the detail.
What is the best GitHub Pages alternative?
NudgeHost, if you want the site online without a repository, because you upload the files and get an address with no Git and no build step. If you want to keep publishing from Git, Cloudflare Pages has no bandwidth cap on its free plan, and Netlify adds forms and functions.
Can I host a single HTML file like GitHub Pages does?
Yes. Upload the file to NudgeHost and it opens as a page at its own link. You can do it signed out, and the page stays live for 7 days, or make a free account to keep it with no end date.
Can I use a GitHub Pages alternative for a business site?
Check the free plan's terms. GitHub's docs say Pages isn't for running an online business, an e-commerce site or SaaS, and Vercel's Hobby plan is for non-commercial, personal use only.
Can I keep my custom domain when I move?
Yes. Add the domain on the new host, then change its DNS records. On NudgeHost, custom domains come with Pro at $12 a month and Studio at $29 a month, and they have to be a subdomain such as www.yourname.com, since a root domain such as yourname.com isn't supported.
Which alternative runs server code?
Netlify, Vercel and Cloudflare Pages run functions beside the static files. NudgeHost and GitHub Pages serve files only, so a site that needs a login or a database belongs on a host with functions.
